[Current Music |Radiohead - Kid A]

In the last two weeks, I've met a bunch of new people, found some new music, bought a lot of new clothes, and been to a few new places, so all in all it's been pretty cool. Expect random paragraphs and unlinked ideas from this point on:

- I missed the Incubus concert on thursday, but I did get their new album, which is good.

-For a couple of days, youtube was banned in Turkey because of a comment by some Greek person, supposedly against Atatürk.

- I went to a weird psychedelic-techno-trance-party thing yesterday, which was fun, but a bit of an assault on the senses, with music cranked up to ear hemorrhage volume, the smell of spray paint mixed with body odour and weed, and flourescent decor drenched in ultraviolet light.

- I haven't had a haircut in four and a half months, and my hair now reaches just past the tip of my nose when I pull it. Still hoping to dread it when it gets long enough. Ideally, I'd like to postpone having a haircut until I have to shave my head for military service.

- In the world of gaming, God of War 2! The Force Unleashed (OMG the physics)! Assassin's Creed! Heavenly sword (Andy Serkis and Weta workshop)! Warhammer 40K MMO! Halo 3! WANT. I DO. NOW.

- Our youngest cat, who is very likely pregnant, came to our doorstep today covered in petrol from head to toe. The only explanation I can think of is that some kids must have caught her in the street and done it. She's been completely shaved, and she's so scared she'll be lucky to give birth now.

[Current Mood | content]

From time to time, perhaps once or twice a year, something about the recent events in my life seems to click, and I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and happiness. The last couple of days have been such a time for me. I don't know exactly why, but ever since monday morning everyone I know seems to be friendlier, although I can't pick out any discernable differences in my interactions with them. Yesterday, I was stuck in traffic for about 2 hours on my way home from school. For some reason this didn't bother me in the slightest. I just got a sudden urge to listen to happy music and, against my usual character, I started to smile. The last time anything like this happened was when I changed schools halfway through last year. It sounds kind of weird when this is put in writing, but I try to make a point of recording any time I feel like this. So... yep that's about it.

Enter Palpatine... [Nov. 29th, 2006|06:39 pm]
[Current Mood | worried]

So the pope has come to Turkey. I have very little knowledge of his intentions other than that he wants to visit the orthodox patriarch, but as far as I know he caused a lot of fuss over the Armenian genocide and he hates Turks. Judging by the anti-pope graffiti that has sprung up lately around Istanbul and the fanatical ravings of the Turkish nationalist party, the Turks don't much like him either. All in all it seema like a very dangerous move. There are roumors of schools being cancelled on friday due to predicted protests and riots in the city. I just hope nobody does anything stupid like try to kill him, otherwise it'll be goodbye international relations and goodbye to any hopes of Turkey joining the EU (a matter on which I am still decidedly neutral). On an amusing sidenote, I discovered from a christian friend of mine that you need to buy a ticket to see the pope. He's like a touring musician...

For the hell of it! [Oct. 24th, 2006|07:43 pm]
[Current Mood | satisfied]

After approximately a month of lunch breaks and free periods of editing, weekends of recording and 1 total deletion, the fellowship of the ring parody film thing is finally finished. It was presented to the whole school on friday and was surprisingly popular. My friends and I will touch it up a bit and post it on youtube as soon as possible, where it will probably not be as popular, but what the hell. I finished painting my terminator chaplain recently, and I will post a picture of that when I can get my hands on a decent camera.
Moving away from personal achievements and promises of posts, I have been considering dreading my hair. I have done quite a bit of research into it, but I want to get a few people's opinion before I ask my parents. I dreaded my fringe the other day, and took a few pictures with my phone (which explains the quality). This is my fringe before and after dreading. As you can see, my hair is a bit too short to dread fully, but any opinions are appreciated.

A re-draft of the re-draft of the draft... [Sep. 16th, 2006|11:44 pm]
[Current Mood | peaceful]

I haven't posted anything for quite a while, so I'll sum up whats been happening. I've been back at school for a few weeks now, and so far 11th grade has not melted my brain. I get quite a few free periods during the week which is great. Unfortunately, I can't start painting miniatures as an art project until the second term, so I'll save my carnifex until then. Last friday, my school had a 'bonding day' (which, thankfully, is not nearly as bad as it sounds). Basically, we went out to the forest and shot short films. Even more basically, it was an excuse for the students to have a day off running around with sticks and playing with cameras. My group did a short parody thing of the Fellowship of the Ring (with a four-person cast), which was fun, but pretty poor quality. I may post it later, if I think its good enough.

I spent most of today at my friends house playing Halo 2 and various versions of Battlefield. When we got bored of shooting things while shouting our new battle cry ('For the hell of iiiiit!') we went to Kanyon, a relatively new shopping mall in Istanbul which looks like an upper-class district in coruscant. We went to the cinema there, which is located inside a giant dome that you have to cross a bridge to reach, to watch Lady in the Water. I personally thought it was excellent, and I recommend it highly.

To completely change the subject, with the help of my sister's leet stenciling skillz, I now have a 'level ?? humanoid' t-shirt. I am a happy nerd.

Holiday [Aug. 16th, 2006|11:15 am]

[Current Mood | tired]

Just got back from Singapore yesterday. We mostly just shopped there, but it was still a great trip. On my first day there, some random guy ran up to me on the street and started shouting 'You! Harry Potter! Harry Potter!'. He had apparently mistaken me for Daniel Radcliffe. I had already been told countless times that I look like J.K. Rowling's infernal creation but this was the last straw. From now on, I'm keeping my hair short.
I found a place that sells 40K miniatures while I was there and picked up a warp spider exarch, two swooping hawks and a tyranid lictor to go on the pile of miniatures that I really want to paint but haven't got round to doing yet. I'm going back to school in under a week, which feels odd, but for the first time in a very long time I'm actually not dreading it. The 11th grade in the IB is supposed to be hard, but I feel ready for it. We shall see...

On gaming... [Jul. 27th, 2006|03:09 pm]

[Current Mood | geeky]

For the past six or seven years of my life, I have been a rabid fan of gaming. I spend much if not most of my time in front of a screen jumping around and killing things in imaginary worlds. My favorite games for the PS2 would be the prince of persia sands of time trilogy and shadow of the colossus. If you enjoy the action-adventure genre and haven't played these games yet, do so. You won't regret it. As for PC games, my favorites would be world of warcraft and dawn of war. I am currently embarking on the nigh-impossible mission of increasing my reputation with the argent dawn and cenarion circle in world of warcraft in order to reap the shiny rewards. I have not got very far, as I do not enjoy 'farming' the same type of enemy for hours at a time, every day for months, which seems to be the only way of succeeding in my endeavor. Damn you Blizzard...

Stuff... [Jul. 22nd, 2006|11:37 pm]
[Current Mood | creative]

Went to the cinema today with my sister. We were intending to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean film (which I have already watched and liked a lot... You just can't beat a good piratey film) but ended up watching Superman Returns instead. Although I wasn't thrilled when I heard of this film and know next to nothing about superman, I actually enjoyed it very much. It manages to be a quintessential superhero film without being overly cheesy or predictable, and the cast all pull off their roles very well.
On a completely different note, I have started painting a terminator chaplain (which looks something like this http://www.games-workshop.de/warhammer40000/races/space-marines/articles/bt-anfangen/bilder/Term_Chaplain_lg.jpg)
I'm hoping to paint miniatures as a school art project next year, as I can choose whatever I want to do. I'm thinking of doing either a tyranid carnifex (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/tyranids/carnifex/images/carnifex-variant-1-sm.jpg) or a selection of smaller converted models in various poses. I've always wanted to do a dancing space marine, but I don't have the necessary bits and bobs at the moment. Ideas and suggestions are welcome, so feel free to leave a comment.

First entry... [Jul. 20th, 2006|04:17 pm]
[Current Mood | indifferent]

Welcome to my LJ. I've only just started and I'm not sure what I'll do with it or how often I'll update it, but what the hell. I haven't got a clue what to put in my first entry. If this is rabia reading then hello, this is your brother. If you share any of my interests, please leave a comment. So... yeah, that's about it.
